Emotional Expression

Saying what you feel while you are still feeling it

Usually hardest for: Extraversion low, Emotionality low

The three phases

  1. Day 1–7

    Notice

Watch it happen. Nobody else has to know.

  2. Day 8–14

    Try it small

Do it where it costs you nothing.

  3. Day 15–28

    For real

The people and rooms that actually matter.

Three of the 28 days

One from each phase, in full. The rest arrive one a day in the app — the first 7 days free.

Day 1 about 5 min

Check in with yourself three times

Set three alarms for today — morning, midday, evening. When one goes off, pause and silently finish the sentence "Right now I feel ...". Write the word in your notes app, nothing more. Nobody sees this but you.

Why it matters

You cannot say what you feel if you do not know what it is, and most people skip that step for years. Three small check-ins start rebuilding the wire between feeling and words.

If it stalls

One word is enough — "tired", "tense", "pleased" all count. If nothing comes, write "blank"; that is an answer too.

Afterwards you answer

  • Which of the three moments was hardest to put a word to?
  • Did any of your answers surprise you?
Day 8 about 5 min

Tell a stranger they made your day

Find one moment today when a stranger genuinely lifts your mood — a barista, a bus driver, the person holding the door — and tell them while it is happening, with the feeling in it: "That honestly made my day." One sentence, then carry on with your day.

Why it matters

A stranger you will never see again is the cheapest audience with a face, and saying a good feeling in the moment is the same move as saying a hard one — on easier ground.

If it stalls

Say the feeling, not just the compliment: "this made my morning" lands differently from "nice coffee". Leave before it has a chance to get awkward.

Afterwards you answer

  • What did they do when you said it?
  • How long did the good feeling last, compared to keeping it to yourself?
Day 15 about 10 min

Say the warm thing to a family member

Tell one family member something warm you actually feel but never say: "I really enjoy our calls." "It meant a lot that you came on Sunday." Say it directly — face to face, on the phone, or in a message that is only about that. No birthday, no occasion: that is exactly what makes it land.

Why it matters

Families can run on unspoken warmth for decades; one line of it said out loud can change the temperature of a whole relationship. It is also the exact move the hardest days of this month are built from.

If it stalls

Out of nowhere feels strange for about three seconds — say it anyway and let the pause happen. If you have to write instead, fine, but do not wrap it in a joke.

Afterwards you answer

  • What did they do with it?
  • Why had it stayed unsaid so long?

How progress is measured

Before you start you rate these situations from 1 to 5. After 28 days you rate them again, without ever seeing the first answers. The difference is the whole point of the app.

  • Telling someone that they upset you
  • Naming what you feel out loud, in the moment
